We need a member of Congress who knows what it means to work for a wage, not come from a background of privilege.  We need a Congressman who knows how hard it is for a working person to make ends meet.  Above all, we need a Congressman who cares about people.

Bill Pollard works for a living,  just like you and me.   Here are his qualifications:

  • From a working class family.  His father was a carpenter and a member of his local carpenters union, being a longtime trustee.
  • Bill graduated from Washburn U. (BA in political science) and the U. of Kansas (MS in journalism).
  • 1982-1994 - Bill worked for the State of Kansas as a  research analyst, computer programmer and programmer analyst.  He was a member of the Kansas Organization of State Employees and trained to become a union steward for this union.
  • 1994-present - Bill has worked as a respiratory therapist in Kansas and Florida, except six months in 2001-2, when he worked as a care worker in Fosse House in St. Albans, England.  While there, he was a member of Unison, the public service union in the UK.
  • 2009-present - Bill has worked as a sleep technologist in Sebring and Wauchula, Florida.
  • Facebook Economic Justice Caucus  page moderator and admin, 2013-2015.
  • Has been a member of the Highlands County Historic Preservation Commission since 2013, becoming its chairman in 2015.  He was previously a member of two other citizen advisory committees (Association of Poinciana Villages Finance Committee 1997-1998; Deerwood Elementary School Advisory Committee 2000-2001).
  • Member of Avon Park Historical Society and Sebring Historical Society.
  • Life member of National Eagle Scout Association.
  • Wrote The History of Avon Park Lakes and three other books.
  • Has been a member of his county Democratic Executive Committee Steering Committee since April 2017.  He is a precinct committeeman.

What Some People Who Know Bill Say About Him

"I have known Bill for several years and admire his core values and beliefs.  Bill's beliefs on immigration policies, support for Medicare and Social Security and a system where employees are protected by unions are what we need."

Liane Kerry, Springfield, VA

"I first met Bill in 1972 when both of us were freshmen in college.  He used to spend some of his free time discussing various current political issues with his friends (and a few curious onlookers) at the Student Union.  As a 30-year retiree with the Federal government, and a 20-year retiree with the military, I love my country tremendously.  I know that, if Bill is elected, he will never forget who he is working for, and will not be a disappointment to anyone in the 17th Congressional District, regardless of party affiliation."

Michael Anderson, New York, NY
